May is Physical Fitness Month! At Family Dentistry of Neosho we love to workout and keep our bodies as strong and healthy as our smiles! As you may know, exerting yourself through physical activity is an essential part of staying healthy and strong. It is also known to reduce stress and boost those feel good endorphins after a long day at work!
This year I will celebrate 25 years of work in the dental profession. Over the years there have been many exciting developments. Dentistry has never been a job for me, it is a passion, and I still love it!
In 2016 my dental career changed again when our Invisalign representative suggested I include their training in my continuing education schedule. Since then I have been on a journey that has certainly changed what I can do to help my patients. I consider myself a lifelong learner “junkie.” Learning something new such as this opened my eyes to another world of dental technology and the possibilities for those who have entrusted their dental care to me.
In recent months, more and more companies have been coming online to promote new clear aligners to straighten your teeth. In theory this sounds like a great idea, but buyers beware!
The research currently shows that these aligners are not yet efficient and will require more updates before being truly accurate. In fact, at this moment, these new styles of aligner hold close to a 75% failure rate, which means instead of actually straightening and aligning your teeth and improving your bite, it could make it worse!
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear, invisible option for braces. Many adults choose to not straighten their teeth because they are at a time in their life where they do not want to wear traditional metal braces.
However, Invisalign gives us the ability to straighten our teeth without anyone ever knowing! Invisalign treatment consists of a series of aligners that you switch out over time. These aligners are made specifically for you and your teeth. Each aligner set gradually moves your teeth to where they need to be based on the personalized treatment plan that Dr. Reagan or Dr. Nine designed for you.
You do need to remove the aligners when you eat and drink anything other than water, but taking care of the aligners is fairly easy. For best results, it is recommended that you wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day. On average, you will change out aligners every two weeks and come in for check ups about every six weeks.

This was our 7th year for my family to travel to Belize with the North Belize Medical Mission. Every year it is said, “This is the best year ever!” and this year I really think it was. The team was great! Kim Camerer was able to go for a 4th time. After talking over the years about it to our patients we even had some join the team as well.
We saw just under 1,000 patients over the course of the week. The highlight was showing the health care workers how to place a sealant to reduce cavities in their village. This was a 1st in the country of Belize. Family Dentistry was “using their smiles to change the world”!
